It was a great honor to speak with Rudy Garcia, bass player for the smokin', Cincinnati Sinners, who will be making their live debut with Fallen Blue at Rock Harvest 2013!
1. Who or whom influenced you to become and officer, and also a musician?
I was a Musician first, Playing the local bars as a senior in high school in at 4am then up at 6am to get to school on time. After graduating I left to go back to my home state of California and straight to L.A./Hollywood to find fame and fortune like every other Rocker did LOL The early 80's in Hollywood were like no other, Total Debauchery! I returned back to Ohio years later and continued to play the bars. A very good friend of mine who actually taught me my first song had went off and became a police officer, one night I got a call from him after not seeing him for a couple of years, and he said "Man you need to get into the cop business and see what really goes on in the streets" So the next day I went to the barber shop got a "flat top" and started the process of enrolling into the academy...........
2. Whats the meaning behind the band name Cincinnati Sinners?
The meaning is quite simple.....None of us are perfect, we basically wake up good people and try our best to get through the day, but we make mistakes, some we learn from, and some we regret, but in the end Jesus Christ, our lord savior has our back! Who better than JC to watch your back? We are not a religious band, its just our thinking.......
3. Past or present, which band would you have loved to be in?
KISS. Man, what bigger band really has there been all the way around!!! Motley Crue...The real bad boys of rock-n-roll. I read their book "The Dirt", and it brought back so many memories of Hollywood in the 80's. But Ac/Dc has to be the greatest rock-n-roll band of all time....straight ahead punch you in the teeth rock!!! NO Gimmicks!
4. How did you meet the other members in the band?
I grew up in a family of musicians and drag racers, I was cursed with doing both LOL! I took some time off from music and was driving on the NHRA division 3 circuit and doing some local racing for money, One day I was on Myspace checking some music out when I ran across Russell Jinkens page. Russell was a local Cincinnati Icon who played in a band called "Prizoner" back in the day, Russell also went on to tour and record with David T. Chastain who was a metal guitar god at the time, anyways I clicked on this original song Russ had on his page and it was called Girls,Cars,Guitars and Rock-n-Roll, Man I was blown away!!! Total Rock-n-Roll in the KISS vein, So I sent him a message saying hey dude I wanna rock with you I love the music!! He messaged back and was really cool but at the time Russ was a single father and couldn't take away from raising his son at that point. about 3 years later I was at a local track with a brand new race car I had built, my phone went off with an incoming email, It was Russell Jinkens saying hey man Im ready to get something together....I turned to my wife and said Rock-n-Roll is calling Im selling the new car! LOL She looked at me like I was crazy, so after talking on the phone a few times Russ said lets go to Nashville this weekend and check some bands and do some partying, So he picked me up we went to Nashville (We didn't even know each other im sure it was awkward for both being in a car with a complete stranger) and we watched bands play for dollar bills and drank a lot of "Fireball Whiskey" and formulated our plan, and here were are 15 months later just completing our second cd! If I had to quit and retire from playing today, I still got to rock with one of my hero's Russell Jinkens, Hes the best frontman out there!
5. How was your experience on the Monsters of Rock Cruise?
The Monsters Of Rock Cruise was a total blast!!!!! Man the people were so cool, 3000 rock-n-roll fans on a cruiseliner there to see some of their favorite bands, It was incredible!!! We made a lot of new friends from all over the country and the world who we are in contact with everyday! Man there was Cinderella, Tesla, Y&T damn so many bands im forgetting a bunch, but the real high light for me was UFO!!! I got meet rock-n-roll icons and hang with them back stage and after sitting around having some umm beverages they were so cool!!!! (for those of you who might not be familiar with UFO they only recorded the greatest live album of all time with ":Strangers in the night" If you dont have it in your collection, turn in your Rock-n-Roll cards!! LOL! But really, the best thing was meeting new friends who were so cool!!!! Theres other little stories I cant say in this interview LOL!
6. What made you want to join forces with the Fallen Blue organization?
Being a retired Deputy Sheriff ( Road PatroI, retired last year, 20 yrs) its a no brainer to support such a great cause, Society has no idea what it is like being a crime fighter! If one has never been to a policeman's funeral, you have no clue the feeling that runs through you...when those bagpipes blow, it sends a really eerie feeling through your veins! Hey man every time they hit the street its on! Our police are not supported enough that's just fact, you cant just put somebody in a police uniform and say go out and protect us, it takes a certain individual to lace em up and go out into the streets, you cant teach somebody to have balls, you either have em or ya dont!
7. Whats your most embarrassing moment during a show?
Wow, do i have to answer this? LOL Umm I'll say this...whats the old saying? "Dont ever get caught with your pants down" ? LOL
8.What are your current thoughts on the music industry?
Man, what a bummer!!! The industry sucks today!!!! Theres no ICON bands anymore it's all cookie cutter bands!!!! Wheres the bands with balls????
9. What is your dream tour?
Really its quite simple, Playing as many towns as possible, making new friends, Rockin and Rollin for people who appreciate your music and what you do!! It's great to get to talk to people after a show and learn a little about their day to day lives and the dreams they have and work for! Rock-n-Roll is Universal!!! It's what gets us through the day to day bullshit!
